It’s easy to forget, when I’m sitting on my couch in the evening, catching up with my friends on FaceBook, that everything I do and say on the internet stays publicly visible forever. But forgetting this can cause a lot of trouble down the road.
Here are a few facts and a great website to go to for more information.
- Even if you delete something from a website, it remains in the digital memory of sites such as the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine.
- More and more prospective employers are googling applicants. When you google yourself, do the results show you in a positive light?
- Social networking sites are not as private as they may feel. It is highly recommended that you go into your favourite social network’s privacy features and look at your settings, tweaking them as needed to better control what information is shared.
